Shotcrete is concrete fired through a hose and nozzle at pressure rather than poured into formwork. It goes on in layers, it bonds as it lands and it holds on a vertical or overhead face. That is why it works for retaining walls, batters, basements and pool shells, where formwork is either impossible or not worth what it costs.

We spray wet-mix. The concrete is batched at the plant and turns up to spec, so what goes on the wall is what the engineer signed off. Dry-mix has its place. On a structural or civil job the consistency of wet-mix is what gets it through QA without an argument.

Blake sprayed ground support underground in Papua New Guinea on one of the largest shotcrete contracts in the southern hemisphere, ran robotic rigs and shaft lining, then brought that back to South East Queensland. Same standard on a pool shell at Buderim as on a range road.

Who we work under
Doval Constructions PCA Ground Engineering Queensland Government Stanwell Yurika

PUMPD works as a specialist subcontractor. Sprayed and pumped on TMR range works at Kenilworth and Mt Nebo through Doval, downslope stabilisation at Cunninghams Gap through PCA Ground Engineering, and the Swanbank and Tarong BESS builds for Stanwell with Yurika. Also placed for Oz Stabilisation on Lismore City Council flood restoration packages. Referees available on request.

Where it goes

Four things we spray

Labour-only against mesh and anchors you already have in place, or full scope with the excavation, drainage, formwork and finish. Walls up to 3.2 metres are standard scope; over 3.5 metres we price on application rather than guess at it.

Who brings us in

The jobs we are built for

Three types of client make up most of the shotcrete book. If you are one of them you will get a straight answer on price and program the same day you ring.

You need a shell sprayed and cut clean on the day you booked it, so the tiler and the plant crew are not standing around waiting. We confirm the afternoon before, turn up when we said and pressure-clean the road on the way out.

Where we are not the right call. We are line pump and spray, not boom hire. We will also not spray a face that is not ready. If the mesh, the anchors or the drainage are not right you will hear it from us before the truck is booked, which is cheaper for everyone than hearing it from the engineer afterwards.

How a job runs

From your first call to off the site

Six steps, same every time, whether it is a pool shell or a batter on a range road. Click through and see exactly what happens and what we need from you.

01

The call

You ring 0434 866 490 and Blake answers it. Tell us the job, the access and the date you want it. Most of the time we can tell you on that call whether it is standard scope or a price on application, and roughly where you sit in the program.

  • What we need: wall height, rough square metres, the suburb and your date.
  • Plans or photos help. A video walking the access helps more.
  • Over 3.5m or unusual ground, we will say so rather than quote blind.

Shotcrete
questions

Anything not answered here, call Blake on 0434 866 490 and ask him directly.

What is shotcrete, and how is it different from poured concrete?+

Shotcrete is concrete sprayed at high pressure through a hose and nozzle instead of poured into formwork. It is applied wet-mix and built up in layers, and it will go onto vertical or overhead surfaces that poured concrete cannot reach — retaining walls, pool shells, slopes, tunnels.

What is EFNARC accreditation and why does it matter?+

EFNARC is the European standard for sprayed concrete. Our EFNARC-accredited robotic nozzleman has been tested on application quality and consistency for robotically-applied shotcrete, which is what engineers, builders and tier 1 principals look for when they assess structural and civil work.

How high can you shotcrete a wall?+

Up to 3.2 metres as standard. Over 3.5 metres is priced on application — tell us your wall height and we will tell you straight whether it is standard scope or POA.

Do you supply reinforcement, mesh and anchors, or do we arrange that?+

Depends on the job. Civil shotcrete is typically labour-only against mesh and anchors already in place. Residential shotcrete can be full scope — excavation, drainage, formwork, finish and spray. Tell us the job and we will confirm exactly what is included.

Do you spray shotcrete pools on the Sunshine Coast?+

Yes. Pool shells sprayed and cut by hand, including decorative and mock-rock finishes, from Caloundra to Gympie and across the wider Sunshine Coast.

What areas do you cover for shotcrete?+

Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Brisbane and Gympie as our core area, regularly Gold Coast, Fraser Coast and Northern Rivers NSW, and away work for the right project across regional Queensland.

How are variations handled?+

If scope changes on the day we record it on site with a photo, a signature and a timestamp before proceeding. No surprises on the invoice.
